Evans Above Our President is a Champion

Melvyn Evans

Lampeter and District Motor Club last week saw their club president Melvyn Evans become the 2009 MSA Asphalt Rally Champion.

After competing on the opening round over the infamous Epynt military ranges above Llandovery on the John Price Rallying Tour of Epynt which would be his home rally Melvyn took ought right victory on that event and went on to take maximum MSA Asphalt Championship points on the Circuit of Ireland National Rally, the Manx National Rally in the Isle of Man as well as The Jim Clark National Rally up on the Scottish Borders.

Evans again took maximum points on the fifth round of the Richard Egger Insurance MSA Asphalt Rally Championship, the Sligo Stages Rally two weeks ago, to claim the 2009 title. He succeeds David Kynaston who, following retirements on both the two previous rounds, was not present in Ireland.

With two rounds of the MSA Asphalt Rally Championship still to run, Melvyn, co-driven on this occasion by Patrick Walsh from Aberystwyth, has achieved a ‘full-house’ with five maximum scores from the five rounds so far.

LDMC chairman Mr Justin Jones said “ I would like to congratulate Melvyn and the team on his success in the Asphalt championship this year, not only is he able to prepare cars to the highest of standards he can drive them to the limit as well . This year Melvyn has put LDMC on the map in all parts of the British isle and Ireland which for a small club like Lampeter’s makes us very proud, and with a few crews doing very well in other championships it looks like it’s going to be a good year for LDMC.”
