The ever popular Rali Bro Caron was recently held by Lampeter & District Motor Club.  The weather was rather typical for the Bro Caron in it was very cold & icy.  The event had a new organizing team this and new sponsors in Arfon Griffiths Carpenter, Talgarreg & Windy Corner Coaches, Pencader.  90 starters were chosen out of the 118 entries recived to tackle the 100 mile route on some of the finest roads on map 146 & centred around Lampeter

Highest seeded LDMC crew was Justin Jones & Nia Hughes.  With his car freshly painted for the event, through no lack of trying, it wasn’t to be for Justin & Nia as they had a few altercations with the scenery resulting in some bodywork damage.  The crews were 3rd at petrol before finishing the event 5th in class 6th o/a

Seeded car 5 was Stefan DR Davies & Justin Davies.  The rally would draw a nightmare week to an end for Stefan as him & father Twm lost both their rally cars along with some of their car collection in a fire at their home.  Stefan managed to put his nightmare week behind him & guided by Justin Davies, the crew took the hired RNX escort to their maiden win on the car’s 150th rally.  There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when the popular Llangybi driver was presented with his 1st o/a winner’s trophy

Another all LDMC crew that did no harm to their ever growing reputation on the event was Malcom Jones & Rhys Jones.  The pair, fresh from a top 10 finish on the Rali Mike Darowen improved from their 4th in class 5th o/a at petrol to finish the Bro Caron 1st in class 2nd o/a

Prevoius Bro Caron winner Alan Gaunt rolled back the years in his escort to finish 7th in class 8th o/a with another young, all LDMC crew in Tim Evans & Twm Lloyd winning their class & finishing 16th o/a. Paul Jones used his local knowledge gained from being a postman to good use as he finished 8th in class 20th o/a while Rhydian Morgan lived up to his pre event billing as “pot hunter” by finishing 3rd in class 24th o/a.

There were LDMC members in both seats 51 with Richard Briddon being guided around the route by Rhys Price.  The pair enjoyed a fairly decent run and finished 5th in class 29th o/a whereas young co driver Geth Johnson came 2nd in his class 38th o/a.

Marc Mayes was driving his brother’s red 4 door escort on this event and finished 17th in class 42nd o/a, two positions in front of another all LDMC crew in Jordan Guillck & Ellie Wilaims who came 44th o/a 3rd in their class

Rhys Lewis finished 13th in class 45 o/a, driving his ex Neil Weaver Clio, one position in fornt of Carwyn Evans & Andrew Davies in 46th o/a.  Carwyn & Andrew finished 4th in their class.

Jason Thomas bought a Sierra especially for the event and had navigation virgin David Heath in the passenger seat.  Jason’s sometimes exuberant driving and the inexperience of Heath on the maps didn’t hamper the crew as they finished 16th in their class & 50th o/a.  The last all LDMC crew home were Oliver Methuen & Karl Johnson who finished 19th in class & 50th o/a

Previous event winner Keith Daniels had another Bro Caron Winner in Dorian Evans on the maps.  However the crew were excluded from the rally for not stopping at a give way.   There were DNF’s for the all LDMC crews of Andy & Dafydd Evans, Jamie Evans & Cadog Davies, Chris Palmer & George Eadon, Ieuan Evans & Event Sponsor Arfon Griffiths, Michael Jones & Andrew Gaunt, Gareth Hughes & Daniel Evans, James & Sioned Davies, Hywel Bailey & Phillip Llewelyn & the car 90 cre of Dafydd Davies & Unum Pila

Rhodri Evans who was 2nd o/a at petrol had to retire due to a broken steering arm whilst Wayne Jones, bother of 2nd placed Malcom suffered the same fate.  Peter Wake’s navigator felt unwell so forced the crew to pull out, where as suspected shaft failure resulted in Tomos Evans’s retirement navigating in car 77.  LDMC Drivers Alex Rossiter, Sam Woodcock, Vivian Jones also didn’t finish along with LDMC navigators Maggie Jones, Hefin Jones & Tjay Benneta
