Dylan and Mark on their way to another podium finish (Aneurin James)

Another busy weekend of competition took place on the weekend of the 9th and 10th of April, with the first event up on the 9th was the Midland manor motor club organised Rallynuts stages rally. This 44 stage mile event would be based in the town of Builth Wells and would take place in the Myherin, Sweet lamb, Hafren and Sarnau forests. This rally would be the second round of the welsh forestry rally championship as well as the second round of the BTRDA rally championship. Once again there were a couple of Lampeter and district members scattered in the entry list, with the first being Dylan Davies and Mark Glennerster, they once again were out in their R5 specification Skoda Fabia. They were seeded at 8. Also entered was club chairman Dafydd Evans, who again would be navigating for Craig Cameron, in Craig’s B13 specification Subaru Impreza. They would be starting at number 25.

The rally would consist of six stages with a service interval after the first three, and with two stages, Myherin and Cwmysgawen, repeated. Sadly it was to be a very short event for Craig and Dafydd, who didn’t make it to the day’s first stage, due to a fuel issue. A great shame as they would of no doubt put in some impressive times, this showing that rallying can be a very cruel sport at times, with ups and downs.

Thankfully the rally went a little better for Dylan and Mark, as on the opening stage, Myherin 1, they set the fifth fastest time, stopping the clocks on 10 minutes and 8 seconds. A great start to their day. Next up was Harfren Sweet lamb, always a popular stage with spectators with many great views of the action. Here Dylan and Mark were third quickest, with a time of 7 minutes and 51 seconds, only 8 seconds down on the fastest overall time. The final stage of the first half was the short stage of Cwmysgawen. Here Dylan and Mark were once again third quickest overall with a time of 3 minutes exactly, they were only 2 seconds from the fastest overall here.

From here there was a brief service halt back in Builth Wells before another loop of stages, Dylan and Mark swapped the tyres from front to rear as they had been suffering with tyre wear as on the Rally North Wales, although they were enjoying the stages. At the halfway mark they lay in fourth overall with a total time of 20 minutes and 59 seconds.

It was back to Myherin for the first stage of the second loop, here Dylan and Mark were fourth fastest with a time of 8 minutes and 22 seconds. Hafren main was the fifth stage of the event and here Dylan and Mark were again very consistent in their times with a fifth fastest time on this 9.4 mile stage. Their time was 9 minutes and 42 seconds. It was back to Cwmysgawen for the final stage of the event, this time the stage was slightly longer, and here again Dylan and Mark were the fifth quickest with a time of 4 minutes and 45 seconds. This meant that they in fact finished the day in third overall, a great result from this very consistent crew, giving them a great haul of points in the welsh forestry rally championship. Mark commented that the stages were awesome and Dylan did an excellent job driving the car. The next round of the welsh forestry championship is the Plain rally which takes place on the 21st of May.
