The certificate awarded to the club for their efforts on sustainability
Lampeter and district motor club have recently been awarded accreditation in sustainability by Motorsport UK. The Motorsport UK Environmental Award was created to recognise a truly exceptional and outstanding achievement or contribution towards environmental responsibility and the active promotion of sustainability within motorsport activities, events and communications. Motorsport UK ranked 3rd in the world in the 2025 Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sport, securing Gold standard and placing the organisation among the highest performing sporting bodies internationally. This achievement however belongs to the motorsport community as a whole, from clubs and volunteers to competitors, officials and partners.
The association recognised the clubs dedication to improve our sustainability and to move towards net zero. The association supported the club's statement in its aim to become a net zero club, an aim which the club intends to be supported by clear evidence of its efforts. The club's mission is to attract a steady flow of new members and will foster strong connections with the local community, who actively support our events. As well as this, the club’s events will be recognised for their positive environmental impact, with few complaints, and will be known for setting the standard in sustainable motorsport. However, the club’s focus is that there is always room for continuous progress, and the club recognises many areas in which changes can be made, to help sustain motorsport for years to come.
Some of the challenges recognised by the club include noise levels on events that negatively affect the local residents and community, noting changes can be made by ensuring that firstly all members are educated on noise reduction control measures and ensuring that all competitors involved are not exceeding the strict Motorsport UK guidelines. Another issue that the club has noted and is working to improve is waste created by events. The club will ensure waste is effectively dealt with by educating members on the sustainability efforts and ensuring that waste is not left behind, and that everyone involved take their waste home with them so it can be recycled properly, this is one area where the club is already very active.
In taking note of these points and taking the necessary action the club believes it can make the sport sustainable and to have an excellent feature for generations to come.
