Farther and son team of Arwyn and Ollie Jones slide their way into a top ten placing on the Towy Legends targa (Lost in Wales)

Sunday the 1st of March saw the Llandeilo motor club organised Towy Legends targa rally take place at the Pembrey motor circuit. This famous venue would host an event made up of eleven tests, using the circuit and the surrounding roads. 34 competitors would sing on for the day, with a couple of club entrants included. At car 6 would be Arwyn Jones in his familiar Mk2 Ford escort, and making his debut, would be his son Ollie, who had recently turned old enough to navigate on road rallies and targas. Competing in the 4wd and clubman section would be Harry and Liam Evans at car 40 in a Mazda MX5, they would also be newcommers, as would Dion Williams and Jac Rees, also in the 4wd and clubman section of the event, they were seeded at 53. They would be out in a Peugeot 206. Leigh and Charlie Storr would also be making their debut in a Peugeot 309 gti, they were seeded at car 57. 

Both crews would get off to a great start on the first test, with Arwyn and Ollie setting the sixth quickest time on the opening test, and Leigh and Charlie managing thirty first, even with a couple of penalties gained. In the 4wd and clubman section of the event Harry and Liam would get off to a great start with the seventeenth quickest time after a couple of penalties, and Dion and Jac would also get off to a good start with the twenty third quickest time, they had also picked up a couple of penalties.

Following this on the second test Arwyn and Ollie would briefly hold the rally lead after setting an incredible time on the second test. They would have a 2 second lead going into the third test. Leigh and Charlie would climb a couple of positions to 29th  following the second test. Harry and Liam would also climb in their section of the event, gaining four places they now lay in thirteenth overall. Dion and Jac also climbed, and held a very respectable twentieth overall.

Over the next couple of tests Arwyn and Ollie would drop down the order a little, still holding a podium position in third place, and Leigh and Charlie would climb, now holding twenty sixth overall. Harry and Liam would break into the top ten in the 4wd/clubman section of the event, holding eigth overall, whilst Dion and Jac would continue to hold seventeenth.

The remaining tests would follow without drama for both our runners, as they would both set some excellent times, Leigh and Charlie would climb higher and higher as they day progressed. In the end they would finish the event in a very respectable 16th overall, and fifth in the novice class. Arwyn and Ollie would also have a great day, they would remain in the top ten for the event’s duration, finishing in sixth overall, as well as third in the expert class. In the 4wd and clubman section of the event Harry and Liam would end thier event in a very respectable fourth overall and third clubman, an excellent result for their first effort! Dion and Jac would also break into the top ten with tenth overall and ninth in class, another very respectable result for the first time crews.

It had been a great day out and everyone left the event looking forward to the next outing.
